Through several signal transdution pathways, stanniocalcin 2 plays important roles in the regulation of many biological events of tumor such as proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and metastasis, hypoxia tolerating and drug resistance, indicating stanniocalcin 2 may be a pivotal node in the molecular regulation network of tumor. Stanniocalcin 2 is expected to become a novel biomarker and therapeutic target for diagnosis and treatment of tumor if the funtional mechanisms of stanniocalcin 2 could be further elaborated.
